The increasing cost of weddings and the fact that people are marrying older means that the traditional model of the bride's parents being the hosts of the wedding is quickly disappearing. The form of words on the invitations depends on who is hosting the wedding.

Mr & Mrs John Smith request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter Joan Smith to Mr Iain Michael Wright at Linlithgow Parish Church on Saturday, 1st April 2001 at 3.00 pm and afterwards at Champany Inn, Linlithgow.
Bride's parents (divorced)
Mr John Smith and Mrs Jean Smith request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter Joan Smith to Mr Iain Michael Wright at Linlithgow Parish Church on Saturday, 1st April 2001 at 3.00 pm and afterwards at Champany Inn, Linlithgow.
Bride's parents (mother remarried)
Mr John Smith and Mrs Jean Jones Smith request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter Joan Smith to Mr Iain Michael Wright at Linlithgow Parish Church on Saturday, 1st April 2001 at 3.00 pm and afterwards at Champany Inn, Linlithgow.
Bride's mother (widowed)
