Many couples love the idea of having live classical music played at their wedding. Whether it’s the clarity of a brass group, the beauty of a soprano, the serenity of a harpist or the versatility of a string quartet, having professional musicians at your wedding, can really add a touch of class.
Aside from the traditional organ and choir, these days, with all sorts of different options open, you can have anything from a medieval theme to your favorite piece of music beautifully arranged for string quartet.
So what pieces of classical music are most popular at weddings? Although the choice is vast, here are a few that have stood the test of time and become wedding traditions in their own right.
1. Canon in D by Pachelbel –This is an extremely popular piece of music for weddings and on the repertoire list of most ensembles. It was even used in ‘Altogether Now’ by the band ‘the Farm’ and appeared in adverts for British Gas, Threshers Wines and Pure New Wool. Canon in D is a beautiful, serene piece which is often played during the signing of the register.
